The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience with installation and troubleshooting of commercial PV systems. Our goal is to hire a technician who is able to assess, diagnose and repair all aspects of PV systems based on extensive solar experience. The technician should also be effective in representing the company during direct interactions with clients.
Responsibilities
- Maintain commercial inverter warranty coverage through required preventative maintenance, including filter cleaning
- Diagnose and resolve inverter outages and issues
- Perform string level IV curve tracing and Voc tests
- Visually inspect systems for burned fuses, electrical hot spots and any other noticeable issues
- Mitigate rusting of key system components
- Read As-Built electrical drawings to identify system components
- Use thermal scanners to identify sources of excessive heating on system components
- Address and resolve communication outages with monitoring systems by troubleshooting Data Acquisition Servers (DAS; e.g. Acquisuite), Modbus connections, Current Transducers (CTs), and other metering components
- Testing and recalibrating weather station components, such as temperature and irradiance sensors
- Provide thorough written and verbal reports after each field visit
- Check connections and perform torque tests on combiner boxes and inverters
- Deliver excellent customer support as a representative of the company
- Communicate with inverter support representatives as necessary to resolve warranty claims
- Learn how to interpret data and alarms from various online solar monitoring portals to diagnose, create and resolve cases independently
Qualifications
- Documented Inverter manufacturer training for Solectria Inverters and other inverter manufacturers, including, but not limited to: SunGrow, SMA, Fronius, Xantrex, Advanced Energy, and PVP
- 3+ years of total experience with installing, testing and troubleshooting commercial inverters (10kW - 500kW) and PV systems
- Demonstrated experience as the lead or only technician and a history of resolving PV system performance issues
- Experience with troubleshooting and diagnosing monitoring system issues, including reestablishing local area network and wireless connections. Experience resolving Data Acquisition Server (DAS), Modbus connection, Current Transducer (CT), and other metering component issues
- NABCEP Certification preferred
- Journeyman Electrician's certification in California Knowledge of NEC codes involved with PV installations
- Must pass a background check and drug test
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, lift 50 pounds, be exposed to extreme high temperatures, remain on your feet for extended periods of time, and travel throughout the state of California
- Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required
- Ability to effectively communicate technical details of case work
- Must have a valid state driver's license
- Must have a clean driving record (example no DUI in last 5 years)
- Must be OSHA certified
- Experience with medium voltage equipment is a plus (32 KV xfmr)
- Must have excellent customer service skills

Location
The Senior Solar Field Service Technician will spend most days at the PV Systems that TerraVerde manages to address case issues or perform preventative maintenance. If there are no active cases, the technician will work remotely to monitor systems and update case reports. The technician will ideally be based within 50 miles of Fresno to minimize travel time to the majority of our installed PV Systems. The TerraVerde office is located in Larkspur, California, but the Technician will not be expected to be in the office more than a few times per year.
