Siemens is currently looking for an EHS Specialist for Trench Limited (a Siemens company). The Trench group is a specialized manufacturer of high voltage equipment dedicated to serving the worldwide electrical industry, in both utility and industrial markets, through engineering, service and commitment.

As our Environmental Health and Safety Specialist you will be responsible for development, implementation and administration of EHS programs - including training, KPI development, accountability and strategic planning for the division in alignment with company initiatives policies and procedures to minimize risk and maintain an incident free work environment. You will manage safety related risks and liability by interacting with operations directly on health and safety issues and follow all guidelines as set out by the Ontario Ministry of Labour in the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety act.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a current knowledge of all current and previous Trench and Siemens safety policies and procedures 
  • Revise and update safety policies and procedures as required by regulatory requirements, changes in business needs or new workplace hazards 
  • Ensure all management and supervisory staff complies with the EHS program 
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee - Act as the management co-chair and corporate representative on the committee 
  • Arrange for all meetings including communication of planned meeting times 
  • Ensure meeting minutes are captured and made available to all staff 
  • Act as a resource to committee members and bring known safety issues to the attention of members 
  • Report EHS incidents and statistics to senior management at monthly meetings 
  • Train, Develop and deliver EHS training programs to employees, contractors and visitors 
  • Ensure all employees, contractors and visitors have all required training completed 
  • Train employees in all workplace hazards 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the EHS program 
  • Ensure all employees are working in a manner that upholds safe work practices and good industry practice 
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to staff on EHS issues including but not limited to environmental issues, ergonomics, incident/accident investigations
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Requirements degree in safety environmental, occupational health sciences or other related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in the environmental health and safety field in a manufacturing environment 
  • Thorough expertise and knowledgeable of safety and environmental regulations including but not limited to ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, air, wastewater, storm water and solid and hazardous waste regulations 
  • Strong leadership team management training problem solving and decision making skills 
  • Team player and works well with all levels of employees handling confidential matters in a discreet manner 
  • Proven track record in working hands-on with employees in both union and non-union environments
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Research and analytical skills 
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the Ontario Occupation Health and Safety Act Exposure to WSIB standards, regulations protocols and procedures 
  • Sufficient computer literacy to include MS Office suite and Visio
