Description

This position will be an integral part of the Corporate Strategy department which advances Sempra's strategic and financial plans, collaborates with the business units and other functions of the company on investment decisions, and aids and advises the CFO on key economic, market, and policy impacts and/or risks to the company.  The position will have the key responsibilities of leading financial analysis and modeling, conducting economic research and determining potential impacts to Sempra, proactively partnering with business units and other functional personnel, and preparing presentations to and for the CFO and Board to inform important decisions.  Applicant should have a strong desire for collaboration and be team-oriented.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Financial Planning - Proactively partner with the business units to create the forward-looking financial plan and to facilitate the understanding of business, accounting, and finance issues impacting Sempra now and in the future.  Assist the team to ensure that management's vision of the plan is integrated into all components.  Apply business and financial knowledge to analyze submissions of information for sound finance and accounting.  Model Sempra's overall capital structure and work with treasury to determine the optimal capital structure, including working with rating agencies.  Develop presentations that communicate the key results of the financial plan to senior management, the board of directors and external analysts.
  • Strategic Planning - Identify and model the financial and economic impact of key opportunities and risks, including acquisitions, divestitures, capital structure changes, other business developments, regulatory or tax law changes to support senior management's vision of the plan.  Be a key contributor of insights in the strategic planning process that culminates in a presentation to senior management and the board of directors.  Quantify financial variability and strategic implications of investment decisions.
  • Process Improvement - Leader in the development of processes and procedures to perform responsibilities robustly and quickly. 
  • Economics and Special Projects - Anticipate and respond to requests from senior management for economic and market research pertaining to strategic planning, investment reviews, and issues of interest to the Board.  Develop analytical and data-supported presentations to senior management on topics including but not limited to dividend payout policy, political risk, foreign excess cash, tax benefit utilization, credit rating considerations, international regulatory practices and derivatives regulation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or equivalent experience.
