Description

Product Design Engineer Summary: Develops conceptual data for engineering and marketing specification. Defines the final product design configuration and generates a documentation package that is 1) form, fit, function and specification compliant and 2) meets program process for production and cost objectives. The incumbent shall be well versed in both electrical and mechanical design theory so as to communicate with engineering contributors, vendors, customers, and fabrication personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes product or engineering specification and performance requirements to determine mechanical and packaging designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing processing facilities and methods.
  • Configures designs to be efficiently produced with a wide range of customer options.
  • Ensures that all information on the drawings is clearly and accurately presented, so that the procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, and inspection can be accomplished smoothly in order to provide the highest quality and lowest cost product for our customers.
  • Provides technical information concerning mechanical design's packaging techniques materials properties.
  • Directs and coordinates with manufacturing the building of a prototype, model of the product or system.
  • Confers with research and development personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
  • Capable of preparing three-dimensional mechanical layouts in "Solidworks" software which can be translated into production drawings.
  • Comply with all work rules, including but not limited to, the Company's safety and attendance policies.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Provides product support for existing products, ECR, ECO generation to correct mechanical drawing problems, part substitution, and documentation clarification.
  • Keeps abreast of rapidly changing technologies inherent in the electronic industry.
  • Capable of performing tolerance studies to ensure mechanical fits and avoid mechanical interferences.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of industry standards such as UL specifications regarding safety and testing requirements
  • Conducts design reviews with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and marketing on new product designs.
  • Proficient in the use of computer aided design tools: "Autocad", "Solidworks", and "Dataworks" parts control
  • Safely handles products or equipment in order to prevent injury to handler or damage to product.Adheres to company guidelines on safety, including safe operation of computer terminal and key board to prevent eyestrain, muscle aches, etc.

Equipment/Tools:

Lab equipment as required, telephone, copier, calculator, measurement instruments and computer.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

  • BSME or university program certificate with 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A thorough knowledge in electrical/mechanical field of OEM equipment
  • Should be familiar with estimating techniques and budget control.

Skills:

  • Familiar with the operation of PC using Windows operating system, Internet research engines, and e-mail correspondence.
  • Data retention backup procedures

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply mathematical skills to perform tolerance studies using descriptive geometry.
  • Ability to perform a load analysis.
