Description
The Unit Inspector provides primary PEI support to the operating units. The Unit Inspector's responsibilities include inspection, documentation, surveillance, and recommendations for repairing and restoring fixed equipment and piping. The Unit Inspector is responsible for the following major functions and specific activities: 

  • Maintain a good understanding of the corrosion mechanisms in assigned units, as represented in the unit CCD's.
  • Participate in the RBI modeling for assigned units.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Operations and Maintenance for inspection issues and provide timely communication.
  • Assist as needed in the inspection of non-pressure retaining components, including foundations, fireboxes, burners, stacks, dampers, structural members, tank seals, spring hangers, supports, pipe racks, etc.
  • Represent PEI in Production Team meetings.
  • Develop temporary repair mitigation plans for on-stream leak events in conjunction with the PEI Engineer.
  • Apply appropriate NDE methods to obtain inspection information.
  • Assure conformance to NBIC, AWS, and ASME requirements for welding.
  • Investigate failures of pressure equipment items. The Unit Inspector works with the appropriate Production Team members to determine the cause of failure.
  • Provide quality assurance of all contract inspection of pressure equipment in assigned process units.
  • Participate in the MOC work process to identify and resolve any PEI issues.
  • Provide face-to-face communications with Operations supervision on important PEI related concerns.
  • Make regular tours of assigned areas to look for problems and be aware of daily changes in operating conditions that could affect the performance of pressure equipment. Watch for and promptly report safety hazards and environmental problems.
  • Perform periodic audits related to pressure equipment technical assurance.
  • Monitor fabrication and repair work in on-site and off-site shops.
  • Establish renewal thickness for piping and vessels using the guidelines outlined in ASME Section VIII, B31.3, BP&G INSP-02, or by consultation with the PEI Engineer where needed. Use the renewal thickness to calculate the remaining life of piping and equipment.
  • Review forward month IDMS schedules for obstacles to compliance.
  • Develop ERI packages related to thickness monitoring locations.
  • Review ERI results and evaluate deterioration of existing equipment.
  • Participate in CCD revalidations and renewals
Requirements
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records on the inspection and maintenance of pressure equipment and piping in assigned process units, using IDMS narratives as the primary tool.
  • Work with the PEI contract drafter to develop and maintain equipment inspection drawings, including color-coded P&ID's, equipment diagrams, piping isometrics, and CMD's.
  • Maintain IDMS records such that inspections can be scheduled and completed by the next inspection date.
  • Issue "Final Approvals" for all IDMS documentation activities performed by other PEI or contract inspection personnel.
  • Review the records of new equipment and piping entered into IDMS.
  • Initiate leak response reports to management to communicate causes and mitigation plans for leak events.
  • Work with the PEIM Focal Point to file completed PEI forms per procedure guidance (e.g. temporary repair, CAIR, inspection extensions, etc.).

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Minimum five (5) years welding, pipefitting, CUI and/or Pressure Equipment (PE) inspection experience.
  • API 510, API 653, API 570, AWS certified preferred.
  • Quality Assurance/Control experience strongly preferred
  • Training/Knowledge of Civil/Refractory/Coating/Insulation codes (NACE) and standards preferred
  • PT/UT/MT Experience preferred
  • Corrosion Control Knowledge
  • IDMS/IMS experience
  • API 580/581 (SRBI) Training/ Knowledge preferred.
  • Project experience
  • Unit Inspector experience
  • Ability to read/follow isometric drawings
  • Training/Knowledge on Management of Change (MOC) process.
