The Safety Director is responsible for providing safety leadership through best in class strategies, programs and processes in support of Novinium's workforce. The Safety Director creates and delivers innovative and effective coaching, education and training and prevention programs to promote a safety culture within Novinium.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implements and communicate policies, programs, procedures and initiatives that impact the safety and well-being of employees, property, and equipment
- Liaise with the volunteer, employee-led Novinium Safety Council (NSC).
- Liaise with the volunteer, employee-led Novinium Behavioral Safety program (NOBS).
- Manage proactive safety and accident prevention initiatives
- Partner with the CEO, CHRO and Technical Training Manager to develop and implement ongoing needs assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of safety related training
- Serve as the company's initial point of contact for governmental regulatory agencies on issues related to health and safety
- Coordinate the incident reporting process and maintain required records related to workplace issues and incidents
- Conduct incident and injury investigations, as well as health, safety and loss control investigations, working collaboratively within the organization
- Develop, consolidate, and maintain Novinium's General Safety Guide NRI-00, Safety Procedures Manual & Field Operations Safety (FOSH) handbook in user-friendly formats accessible by all employees
- Research, review and remain current on regulatory and safety issues, guidelines, "best practices" and laws to ensure Novinium's continuous compliance with applicable regulations and procedures
- Manage the company's OSHA compliance programs
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field, with 7 or more years of experience in safety program management and administration
- Experience in the electric distribution/transmission industry is a plus
- Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, RUS and other safety regulations
- Ability to travel on a regular basis
- Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent computer skills with experience in the Microsoft Office suite of products
- OSHA 510 and/or 500 certifications are a plus
Working Conditions
This position works in a typical office environment, as well as field locations.
Significant travel may be required.
