Eaton's Electrical Engineering Systems and Services Division is seeking Project Manager.  The Project Manager will be based out of our Glendale Heights, IL office.

Position Overview:

The Project Manager is a productive position, whose employment is based on the amount of project backlog that the business currently is undertaking. Each Project Manager (depending on experience level), should be capable of managing $3-7M of project business each fiscal year. A successful project manager will effectively manage the profit margins of a specific project (or set of projects) to the established baseline, based on the approved Level of Authorization for that project.

Profitability is achieved with a combination of: 1. increased revenue from the project due to change orders; and 2. reduced costs to the project as a result of cost control activities on a project.

The project manager will identify and aggressively pursue change orders and additional business from the customer.

Project Managers will act as a key interface between the customer and the organization. His/her ability to maintain existing customer relationships and drive customer satisfaction is a critical success factor that will improve customer satisfaction surveys and customer intimacy. This aligns with the division's critical success factors and can be measured as a balanced score card metric.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Use of modern project management tools and techniques to execute projects related to the engineering, procurement, and construction of electrical power system modifications. 
  • Lead modernization projects related to electrical power generation, transmission and distribution industry with specific focus on utility and industrial power systems. 
  • Deliver projects with a high degree of professionalism and safety, using his/her knowledge of industrial and utility power distribution equipment, power system engineering, substation design, & construction safety.
  • Have full responsibility for his/her assigned projects and authority to complete them from inception to scope development, planning, execution, management of people and resources. 
  • Have the discipline to create clear and achievable cost, quality, and schedule objectives and follow these objectives through to successful completion.
  • Provide technical leadership to the district sales & service teams.
  • Manage and direct a team on awarded projects for electrical equipment, including working knowledge of electrical substation design & installation.  Equipment includes: transformers, oil circuit breakers, power circuit breakers, SF6 gas circuit breakers, metal-clad and enclosed switchgear, protective relaying, power cable, substation equipment, motor control centers, medium voltage control, excitation equipment, automatic transfer switches, rotating equipment and AC drives.
  • Manages & maintains the commercial contract between Eaton and its customers
  • Estimates, prepares, submits, and manages change orders between customer and Eaton
  • Manages and communicates the scope of work & responsibilities between Eaton's customers, Eaton's employees, & Eaton's suppliers / sub-contractors 
  • Establishes, and manages the contract(s) between Eaton and its vendors & subcontractors
  • Plans, establishes, maintains, and regularly updates a project schedule on assigned projects
  • Manages communication, and distributes documentation between Eaton and its customers
  • Monitors, reports, and controls costs on assigned projects within estimated project margin
  • Reports, forecasts, and presents project financial activity to Eaton's management
  • Prepares, distributes, and follows through with project safety plan
  • Responsible for financial performance of project including: profitability, project revenue, and cash flow
  • Accountable for the day-to-day management of project plans and goals, and directing workloads of project estimators, design engineers, draftsman, commissioning engineers and installation contractors. Effectively employs sound project management methodology on multiple simultaneous projects using shared resources.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly via written (primarily email) and verbal (in-person and via conference calls) means.  Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, internally and externally,  with clarity and precision.
  • Proactively monitors and controls project execution with internal and external team members throughout the lifecycle of a job; updates teams on progress and addresses obstacles and concerns to maintain budget and timeline.

Requirements

Position Criteria:

  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver's license
  • Ability to travel within the US and outside of the US without restrictions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited Institution
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing projects
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within the immediate area will be considered. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years of Experience in Electrical Power or utilities industry
  • Experience with substations, excitation, power systems upgrades, protection & control, etc.
