Description

As part of the hiring process, all individuals applying for this position will be required to complete a pre-employment assessment.

Assemblers at S&C Electric Company assemble a variety of products. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous production activity, you must meet requirements within time constraints and you will be held accountable for the quality of your work. In some cases, this an assembly line operation involving multiple stations. Initially you will be assigned to one station, but you will need to be flexible and open to working in additional stations as business needs require. Tasks require a mechanical assembly aptitude, an above average degree of eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion. You will frequently use hand and power tools; working while standing on the floor.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assembling of products of various sizes. In addition to high-voltage power fuses and sub-assemblies, switches will range in size from 18" x 6' x 12" to 15' x 15' x 15'. Metal enclosures range in size from 42" x 37" x 70" to 6' x 6' x 6'.
  • Identifying, transporting, installing, mounting, and bolting various components (ranging from 5 lbs. to over 100 lbs. with assistance), including high-voltage switches and fuses. Some judgment required to assemble and make simple adjustments.
  • Performing mechanical inspections using torque wrench, screwdriver, and tape measure; performing electrical inspections using flashlights.
  • Assembling various sub-assemblies on the factory floor.
  • Using simple material-handling equipment, hand tools, power tools, simple gauges and instruments, and overhead cranes, if required.
  • Setting-up and operating simple machines such as Denison presses, drill presses, counter bore machines and magnaforms.
Requirements

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical operations.
  • Ability to use basic shop math and measuring tools such as tape measures.
  • Ability to use air impact tools and other hand-held tools.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions and procedures and read assembly prints.

Relevant Experience Required:

  • Mechanical assembly experience preferred.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with occasional walking.
  • Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 1 lb. to 50 lbs.
  • Walking: Occasional walking short distances (approx. 200 feet or less).
  • Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 1 lbs. to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing: Occasional positioning of tub tilters and use of hand trucks to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Pulling: Occasional positioning of tub tilters and use of hand trucks to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Bending: Occasional bending and crouching required to complete assembly tasks.
  • Reaching: Continuous range of motion from the shoulders to knee level.
  • Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 75 lbs. along with a variety of hand tools.

This is an entry level position for which the starting compensation rate can vary based on experience, typically approximately $11.50 per hour.
