Description

Eaton's Engine Air Management Group has an opening for an Engineering Manager. The Engineering Manager will be based at our Marshall, MI facility. 

Job Overview:

The primary function for this position is to lead the Advanced Valvetrain engineering team in North America to ensure that current or new valvetrain product designs are technically and economically competitive in present and future markets. The Engineering Manager develops components for specific customer programs and brings them to market within needed timeframe. This also includes the development of new products and solutions for customer applications and prototype builds as required. 

This position will be responsible for the quality of engineering practice and validation plans for projects that are led from the North America region including R&D, new product development, current product, and cost out activities. In addition, this role will provide input to future technology roadmaps and ensure that programs are executed to achieve the business financial and growth goals. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor performance of the team to assure that current product support, future product development, and technical support for customers are addressed. 
  • Manage engineering resources required to introduce and validate new products to ensure manufacturability is attained while maintaining product design integrity. 
  • Assure that efforts to improve the efficiency of the Product Engineering functions are emphasized through creative organizational management, effective use of engineering tools, appropriate training and continuous improvement. 
  • Assure appropriate product documentation, design standards, and material related specifications are developed to support current and future product development activities. 
  • Monitor industrial and technological changes in order to identify potential product improvement and/or cost reduction opportunities. 
  • Interface with Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production personnel to ensure product programs are consistent with company goals and priorities. 
  • Forecast future customer engine technology plans to determine product opportunities and threats.
  • Establish appropriate action plans within Eaton as well as jointly with customers to address the potential impact of new requirements. 
  • Continuously perform benchmarking activities to target best practices in the industry. 
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and profit planning processes, and project monthly rolling forecasts as appropriate for appropriate departments. 
  • Comply with requirements of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering or corporate environment  
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct or indirect experience managing people 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Business
  • Masters in Engineering
  • Large-scale cross functional project team management experience
  • At least 5 years of application engineering management experience 
    Knowledge of valve actuators and valve technology, application expertise and engine design 

Position Criteria:  

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with customers, manufacturing, and suppliers. 
  • Strong customer focus and excellent presentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills 
  • Strong ethics, values and the ability to influence and impact others' decision making 
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, make decisions, and get results 
  • Experience in the design and development of new or improved products. Familiarity with basic technical engineering principles governing the design of product, such as fluid mechanics, stress analysis, material compatibility and heat treatment, valve gear dynamics and manufacturing techniques employed 
  • Familiarity and experience using DFSS and DFM engineering tools as well as a structured launch system 
  • Strong business acumen: general knowledge of accounting, manufacturing, supply chain, and sales.
