Description
- Monitors power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems. Performs minor fixes if possible. Contacts Mechanics to repair equipment on a timely basis to maintain operation.
- Starts and stops boiler, generator, auxiliary pumping equipment, turbines and chillers or other power plant equipment as need.
- Adjusts controls to generate specified electrical power or to regulate the flow of power between generating station.
- Controls power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators or chilled water, using computers, controllers, automatic and manual equipment.
- Regulates equipment operations and conditions, such as water levels, based on instrument data or from computers.
- Maintains operating pressures for steam and chilled water distributed to campus.
- Determines when filters need to be changed on various equipment.
- Takes action, based on reading from charts, meters and gauges, at established intervals.
- Updates operation log to maintain records for reference.
- Cleans power plant and performs general upkeep.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year experience in maintenance of large equipment such as motors, pumps, generators.
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read and understand gauges on equipment
- Ability to use hand and power tools, control panels and switches.
- Ability to read schematic diagrams; ability to locate components on equipment by referring to schematic.
- Refrigeration Handlers license preferred.
