In this job you will be potentially operating a variety of numerically controlled machines including Horizontal, Vertical and Turning centers, while learning and becoming proficient with the setups involved. Duration of set-ups vary from preset jobs (Palletech) which have no set up times to jobs that have 2 hour set up times. Once set-up, running times also vary from a few minutes to high running jobs to could reach 20 hours, in many cases you will be expected to run multiple parts on a continuous basis throughout the shift period. You will be working in a production environment where all jobs have a measured standard production rate and you will be responsible to achieve this, along with the quality of your work. Most tasks require good hand/eye coordination and the full range motion of both hands and arms on a regular and repetitive basis.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Handling of piece parts usually ranging in weight from 1lb. to 25 lbs.
- Deburring and cleaning of parts using various hand and power tools such as a belt sander or drill press.
- Inspection of parts visually, using various measurement tools such as height gauges, micrometers, pin/thread gages and veneers.
Enrollment and successful completion of courses offered at S&C through S&C Continuous Improvement Institute is expected.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
- Demonstrated ability to read basic blueprints and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and plan daily work assignments in a self-directed changing environment.
- Knowledge of shop math.
- Ability to use measuring equipment such as height gauges or verniers.
- Understanding of metal-cutting applications and machine practices.
Relevant Experience Required:
One year of experience operation and Set-up of numerically controlled machines.
MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing: Most tasks performed in a standing position.
- Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 1lb. to 25 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Walking: Occasional walking short distances (less than 1/8 mile.)
- Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 1lb. to 50 lbs.
- Pushing: Occasional pushing of part containers with manual hand truck.
- Pulling: Occasional pulling of part containers with manual hand truck.
- Bending: Occasional bending and crouching required to perform job tasks.
- Reaching: Frequent reaching required to move parts from machine to tubs
- Handling: Continuous handling of piece parts ranging in size from 1lb. to 25 lbs. along with a variety of hand tools.
