Cooper Power Systems, LLC in South Milwaukee, WI seeks a Lead Product Engineer - Vacuum Interrupter. 

The Lead Product Engineer - Vacuum Interrupter has the following jobs duties:

  • Responsible for leading cross functional teams to execute small and medium projects meeting schedule, cost, and quality targets for medium voltage vacuum interrupters and solid dielectric insulation systems used in Recloser and Padmount switchgear.
  • Identifies creative solutions, performs engineering analysis, creates detailed designs, oversees verification and drives implementation of product cost savings, product improvement and/or engineering process improvement projects.
  • Works with the project leader and cross functional teams to develop project plans and identify risks; participates in and often leads brainstorming/idea generation activities.
  • Contributes creative design alternatives; conducts engineering research utilizing literature resources, industry experts and experimentation; conducts engineering analysis utilizing mathematical models, simulation, Design of Experiments, statistical analysis, etc.; creates detailed designs (or oversees functional experts) utilizing engineering tools; creates verification plans and writes test protocols.
  • Analyzes results using statistical tools; identifies Critical to Quality attributes.
  • Collaborates with Supplier Quality Engineer to review results of PPAP; assures reliability and manufacturability of product improvements; sets aggressive goals, measures performance, and strives to go beyond what is expected; identifies and contributes to the improvement of processes, products and services; appropriately challenges the status quo; performs engineering analysis on cost and performance trade-offs for critical characteristics related to: high power vacuum switching/interrupting; polymer based solid dielectric insulation systems; and current and voltage sensing; and applies relevant Medium Voltage Switchgear Industry Standards to product design, including development and execution of design verification and validation.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)

Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field and three years of relevant engineering experience. Relevant engineering experience must include three years of experience with: Vacuum interrupter technology and manufacturing processes; Six sigma tools including Lean, Error Proofing, Capability Analysis, PPAP, SPC; High voltage design and power system analysis; Phase gate project management processes; Problem solving experience using Root Cause Analysis techniques; Product design, Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly; and One year of experience with skills in engineering analysis and digital simulation (finite element analysis or statistical analysis).
