Description
Under the direction and leadership of the Senior Manager, Compliance & Internal Controls, we are seeking a full-time, permanent Advisor or Senior Advisor, Internal Controls to join our Internal Controls Centre of Excellence as part of the Internal Audit department. The position will be located in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. The Advisor, Internal Controls is responsible for supporting management in its development, maintenance and oversight of the internal control environment as it relates to Canadian Securities Administrators National Instrument requirements, and will provide internal control expertise to management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate the completion of required standardized documentation with Global Business Units (Significant Account Scoping, process documentation, risk and control matrices, walkthroughs, fraud assessments)
- Plan and execute internal control testing, evaluating both design and operating effectiveness
- Assess resource requirements to execute testing in assigned area(s)
- Determine best practices and work with the business to identify consistent and effective internal controls
- Contribute to the preparation and execution of training within the team and to the business
- Assist in the development of appropriate business processes and controls by providing professional, expert advice on the interpretation of policies and procedures and 52-109 requirements
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience in SOX or CSOX (52-109) design, testing and implementation of controls. Candidates with more or less experience may be considered.
- Experience in auditing, accounting, financial policy, or internal control standards
- Expert knowledge of National Instrument 52-109 (C-SOX or SOX)
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Commerce or Business, preferably with a major in Accounting
- Professional Accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA, CIA) preferred
- Strong analytical and investigation skills
- Relates well to people at all levels and develops positive working relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with IT related internal controls (ITGC, Application Controls, SOD) considered an asset
