Description
Under the direction and leadership of the Senior Manager, Compliance & Internal Controls we are seeking a Full-time, permanent Lead, Internal Controls to join our Internal Controls Centre of Excellence as part of the Internal Audit department in Calgary, Alberta. The Lead, Internal Controls is responsible foroverseeing the Internal Controls program and will be responsible for supporting management in its development, maintenance and oversight of the internal control environment, particularly as it relates to Canadian Securities Administrators National Instrument 52-109 requirements. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the internal controls program, including planning, annual calendar, resource allocation and documentation. 
  • Work with Global Business Unit (GBU) Internal Controls Representatives and management to communicate requirements and coordinate timelines
  • Prepare reporting and present to the Internal Controls Certification (ICC) Steering Committee 4 - 6 times per year and as required to management
  • Oversee, facilitate and execute the completion of required standardized documentation with GBUs (scoping, process documentation, risk and control matrices, walkthroughs, fraud assessments)
  • Oversee, plan and execute internal controls testing
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities within the Centre of Excellence
  • Identify and facilitate internal and external training opportunities; coach and mentor less experienced team members 
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Commerce, Business or related discipline, preferably with a major in Accounting
  • 7-10 years of experience in auditing, accounting, financial policy, or internal control standards. Specific expertise in SOX or CSOX (52-109) design, testing and implementation of controls is required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to present identified issues and facilitate problem resolution
  • Customer oriented with a strong focus on collaboration; relates well to people at all levels and develops positive working relationships
  • High level of ethics and integrity: leads by example.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to see the big picture and interpret and assess the short- and long-term impacts of actions and strategies
  • Strong investigative and leadership skills
  • Professional Accounting Designation preferred
