YMCA Benefits from Indiana Michigan Power Program

July 21, 2017

Joint News Release from the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne and I&M

Indiana Michigan Power presented the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne with a check for $20,303.04 on Tuesday for energy efficiency measures at the new Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA.

The incentive check is based on a total savings of 338,384 kilowatt-hours of energy usage anticipated annually at the new facility. The energy savings comes from using LED lights throughout the new facility off St. Joe Center Road west of Maplecrest Road. Lighting in the parking lot also comes from energy efficient LEDs.

"As part of our commitment to social responsibility, we make efficiency and sustainability a priority. By saving money through this program we continue to advance our cause of strengthening our community through our mission which is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, stated Marty Pastura, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.

"I&M is pleased to work with the YMCA to save energy and money using this common-sense Energy Efficiency program," said Nick Elkins, Director of I&M Customer Services & Business Development.

The YMCA participated in I&M's New Construction program, one of the Custom Incentives that I&M offers to qualifying businesses. More information regarding Energy Efficiency programs for homeowners and business is available at www.ElectricIdeas.com.

The amount of the YMCA's anticipated energy savings is based on exceeding standards set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is headquartered in Fort Wayne, and its 2,450 employees serve more than 589,000 customers. More than half of its generation is emission-free, including 2,160 MW of nuclear generation in Michigan, 450 MW of purchased wind generation from Indiana, 22 MW of hydro generation in both states and approximately 15 MW of large-scale solar generation in both states.
