Help Available for NB Communities to Reduce Emissions & Energy Costs

November 2, 2016

QUEST NB is offering a series of workshops designed to help municipalities and local stakeholders learn about community energy planning and relevant energy policy in New Brunswick.

"Addressing Climate Change starts at the local level with community energy planning since communities account for 58% of energy use and 54% of greenhouse gas emissions in the Atlantic Provinces," said Eddie Oldfield, Chair of the QUEST NB Caucus.

Climate change and Smart Energy Communities are top of mind in New Brunswick following a six month consultation by New Brunswick's select committee on climate change. The committee's Final Report states that it was heard that community energy plans are an important tool to "help define a community's priorities regarding energy, efficiency improvements, cutting of emissions, driving economic development and yielding cost savings for businesses and individuals."

Each QUEST NB workshop will feature guest presentations, table-top exercises for participants to identify and discuss aspects of community energy planning, as well as facilitated regional dialogue and knowledge exchange to advance NB community energy plans.

If you are a municipal official, planner, energy manager, regional or local partner - this workshop is for you! Registration is open for workshops in Sussex, Miramichi, Perth-Andover, and Campbellton this November.

These workshops are part of the 2016 Advancing Community Energy Planning in New Brunswick initiative which is supported with funding from the NB Environmental Trust Fund and NB Power. The project is designed to engage municipal and regional authorities to learn about community energy planning, exchange knowledge and collaborate on local initiatives.
